[On-Site Review] Conference and Lecture on Urban Lighting Capacity-Building (8th Asia Urban Lighting Workshop)
The "8th Asia Urban Lighting Workshop," hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the LUCI (Lighting Urban Community International) Association, was held in Yeouido from Thursday, October 10 to Friday, October 11, 2024. The workshop brought together over 250 participants, including urban lighting officials from 68 cities across 16 countries, to share lighting policies and exemplary practices from the participating cities and to explore safe and sustainable nighttime landscape solutions. Under the theme of "Fun Light, Fun City," the workshop emphasized the vital role of urban lighting, not only as a source of visual delight but also as a key factor in enhancing and enriching the quality of life for citizens. The event featured 16 speakers from both domestic and international locations, including Gil Minervini, the Creative Director of "Vivid Sydney 2024," Australia's iconic light festival. They delivered lectures on a variety of topics, including the latest lighting technologies, design trends, and sustainable lighting strategies. The workshop provided participants with valuable insights and strategies for shaping the future of urban lighting.
As a side event of the workshop, the "Urban Lighting Capacity-Building" conference, held on the second day, October 11, provided a glimpse into the future of urban lighting through discussions and debates spanning academic and technological fields. Experts from the Korean lighting academia and industry gathered to explore the latest trends and technological advancements through various case studies and engaging lectures. With
approximately 150 attendees, Vice President Jun Byungwoo delivered a presentation on the theme "The Direction of Outdoor Lighting in Smart Cities."
Vice President Jun Byungwoo, in his lecture, introduced the future of outdoor lighting from an urban environmental perspective, discussing how lighting should be illuminated in the era of smart cities and how lighting can evolve. And he also introduced a new concept of smart lighting through the company’s modular pole system, "POLESTAR" Additionally, he introduced “AYLA,” an eco-friendly product, sharing deep reflections on the impact of light on the Earth's nighttime environment and ecosystem from an urban lighting perspective.
